How to Wake up Peacefully
July 10, 2008 at 1:23 am | In Wake up Peacefully | Leave a CommentYou all know what it’s like. Maybe you have an early meeting, or classes or work that starts early. Whatever it is, each morning you’re at peace, resting, then then all of a sudden: BEEP BEEP BEEP! You know what it is. The Fourth of July is commencing on your night stand and you’re frantically trying to turn it off. Stupid alarms!
Steps
- Don’t rely on an annoying, loud, obnoxious alarm. Use two different alarms; one with a loud beep, and one with peaceful music. Set a radio, MP3 player, or other device to gradually wake you up first, 15-30 minutes prior to your regular alarm. It will help to remind you that the your loud beeping alarm will soon follow.
- Try one of the new alarm watches that monitors your sleep patterns. They determine the optimum moment to wake you based upon your sleep rhythms. Waking at the wrong time according to your body’s natural sleep cycle can make you feel groggy and irritable. These watches are supposed to eliminate this by waking you at the proper time for your body and the alarm time you.
- Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages after sunset if you usually go to sleep after 8 pm. Caffeine interferes with your sleeping and waking cycle.
- Bypass overly stimulating TV shows and movies that kick up an adrenaline response in your body. This includes avoiding shows which depict murder, action movies, and stressful reality shows. If you must watch these shows, try to TiVo the show and watch it at another time if you can.
- Foods you can safely have in the evening that won’t harm your sleep cycle include milk products, which can cause drowsiness and help you get to sleep. And also turkey and nuts and other foods which contain tryptophan, a natural sleep aid, are okay for most people.
- If you must set an alarm clock to wake up in the morning, try using one with natural sounds or musical instruments as part of the alarm. Waking up to loud bells and beeps has been proven to induce a startle response, which creates extreme stress upon wakening and can negatively affect you throughout the day.
- Try taking a bath before you go to bed. Pour in some bubble bath and soak for half an hour/an hour. This should make you feel sleepy and drowsy, and ready to sleep.
- Clinical trials in Japan have showed that people who are slowly woken up by the light of the sun feel better in the morning. If you can, set up some system of lighting that slowly turns on at the desired time, using a dimmer. The light should increase in strength over about half an hour before you wake up.
How to Get to Sleep and Feel Refreshed in the Morning
July 10, 2008 at 1:22 am | In Get to Sleep | Leave a Commentwhen you have come from a long day you feel like you just want to go straight to bed and then you find that you can’t sleep or when your no you have a long day a head of you so you feel like you should be refreshed and roaring to go but then you feel drowsy, sometimes this can have something to do with the time you go to sleep, the soap you use, the temperature of the water etc.
Steps
- - When you think your ready for bed the worst thing is to get into bed then remember that you have many things to do and so you can’t be settled this is one thing that will keep you awake you will be worrying about what you need to do and so prevent yourself from getting a peaceful nights rest
- - Before bed it is also a good idea to have a warm bath, this will help you to relax so that when you get into your bed you are already in the right frame of mind to sleep. Getting a peaceful nights rest also can depend on the type of soap or shower gel you use. Shower gels that say such things as ‘relaxing tranquility’ should only be used before bed in a warm bath but other soaps that might say ‘ morning breeze’ are the ones for the morning but every ones not the same because you also have to find the soap that smells right for you unless you will be walking around all day with a smell on you that you don’t like and a smell that doesn’t make you fell good within yourself.
- - Before bed you should also have something warm to drink all of this preparation is meant for you to relax so that it is easier for you to fall asleep. The drink you have should not be something you think everyone is having it could be some warm tea with milk( the reason it is not hot hot tea is because you don’t want to start sweating before you sleep because these extra heat can make it hard to stay asleep, and also you dont want to spill it on yourself and burn!) or just some warm milk.
- - After your drink you might want to go to the toilet because you don’t want to ruin your sleep by having to get up during the night, so don’t forget to empty your bladder before you go to bed!
- - When you have successfully done everything the key is to make sure that you have on something you find comfortable, not something you think is a bed time outfit. Being comfortable in your nightgown or pj’s is essential; don’t wear something that will have you tossing and turning all night.
- When you’re trying to feel refreshed the next morning:
- - When you get up in the morning the best thing to do is to just get straight up and have a hot steamy shower this really wakes you up seeing as you will still be in your sleepy stages, when your done go straight to brush your teeth you will now be feeling fully clean and ready for the day ahead.
- - Having a hot drink after this should make you even more lively but don’t forget breakfast it may be the most important meal of the day but you’ll find if you don’t have it you’ll be snacking by 11:00.
- - Having music on in the background is always a good idea because music just tends to make people feel good so having it playing in the morning while your getting dressed should leave you in a good mood
